About Rapid City

Visiting Rapid City? See what it means to Do Big Things®.

At the base of the Black Hills, Rapid City serves as a gateway to explore the iconic Western South Dakota region. Surrounded by ten parks and monuments, big things are waiting to be discovered in every direction. Among must-see sites like Mount Rushmore, Badlands National Park and Custer State Park, in-city experiences are not ones to miss.

Downtown Rapid City is brimming with attractions, local restaurants, shops and unique experiences. An easy trek across Memorial Park, adjacent to The Monument, visitors can attempt the City of Presidents scavenger hunt, gaze upon stunning graffiti art in Art Alley, enjoy a movie at the historic Elks Theatre or join in on the fun at Main Street Square – the heart of downtown. Other favorite city sites include Dinosaur Park, Reptile Gardens, Chapel in the Hills, The Journey Museum & Learning Center and Bear Country USA. Try popular South Dakota dishes such as bison, chislic and walleye at a wide variety of downtown restaurants. Rapid City is also home to local breweries, taphouses, and a winery.

Outdoor adventures are just as easy to find within the city as they are within the hills. Hanson- Larsen Memorial Park, commonly referred to as M Hill, is a recreation hub with over 20 miles of single track, perfect for hiking and biking and even a few spots for bouldering. Outdoor enthusiasts can also explore Skyline Wilderness Area, accessible next to Dinosaur Park. Each of these options boast expansive skyline views.
