About the Pre-Conference:
Experienced special education facilitator, mediator, and attorney, Lenore Knudtson, will present this full-day session on meeting facilitation.
As professionals navigating the complex world of special education, we are asked to participate in what seems to be an unlimited number of meetings. At times, these gatherings produce increased learning and understanding, helping us to better address the special needs of children and families. At other times, we leave frustrated, as our expectations for the time spent are not met. In many cases, these meetings are emotionally charged as we come together to engage topics such as safety, fairness, trust, strained relationships, and the complex needs of children.
Experience tells us that the work of groups is enhanced with the assistance of a facilitator. The role of the facilitator is to serve the group and support them in their ability to meet objectives. This session supports the development of facilitation skills that are applicable in a range of contexts.
